LOVE:

1. Kimberly from Melrose Place – She’s BACK! and crazier than ever!!! This time around, she’s got three personalities!

2. thunder storms – man there was a doozy last night! even though it kept me awake, it was still fun to watch and listen to.

3. Andrea Bocelli!!! The blind guy can really belt it out! Beautiful voice, and started getting me interested in opera music again.

4. Batman Begins – I just watched it for the first time the other day, and it literally blew my socks off. Like I had to take them off cause it was just so good, and Dark Knight comes out in a week, so now i’m just extra pumped for that.

5. Vanilla Pudding. It’s extremely underrated. Vanilla pudding is just as good if not better than chocolate, it’s the subtlety that makes it good.

LOATHE!

1. Billy from Melrose Place, MAN! I just hate him so much. He’s so smug and full of himself, people think Michael is smug, well take a good hard look at Billy and you’ll see that he’s 100 times worse! That stupid smile of his, the way he always places blame on everyone else, especially Allison, the way he thinks everything is a competition, and that he always has to win. BOY! I just hate him!

2. clutter. since I’ve become a minimalist I just hate clutter now.

3.The saying “Whatever floats your boat” I was on the phone with Kristy and she said sure, “whatever floats your boat” I just hate it, i just don’t care for it at all. I don’t get it, well maybe i do get it, but I just don’t like it.

4. Bob Geldof… My hatred for this guy goes back a loooong way, but today in a game of The Weakest Link on the PS1 his name came up and reminded me how much i LOATHE him. Gross…

5. Speaking of The Weakest Link on the PS1… I was having a hard time coming up with another thing that I loathed this week UNTIL my “friend” kristy voted me off of the weakest link and kept me out of the championship two times in a row! I want to state for the record that I don’t loathe kristy, just the fact that she voted me off… that hurt kristy. that really hurt.

Today was the day, the day I found what I was looking for, the day that things became clearer, the day life became less cluttered, less stuffy, the day I found the light. From now on this day, July 8th, 2008 will be forever known as the day that I, Christopher James Guenther the Third became a minimalist.

A house full of stuff, full of memories, broken and revered, full of clutter, too full to think, too full to find purpose. I had to do something, I started to simply clean up. Clean up. Dishes done. Floor vacuumed. Laundry clean. Bed made. But it wasn’t enough, there was still stuff everywhere, it was just tidied and neat. It’s so hard to get a job done with so much in the way. My shelf of oddities. Sure it’s entertaining, and provides good stories, Canadian Historical action figures, all the items I received in the mail from the cult of Peter Popoff, a jackalope. But it’s all in the way. In the way of progress. Of Progress. Books everywhere, pictures cluttering the walls, all distract. All unnecessary.

I hate being at home because I don’t do anything, I either sit on the couch and watch TV or sit at my computer and aimlessly wander the web. I look around and see everything that I should be doing, everything that needs to be done, and then I see everything that blocks the way, that’s in my way. Blocking The Way. I need to get around them, but it’s to hard, it’s so hard to see past the unnecessary. A pack of three boxes of unopened staples sits on my computer desk, 5000 per box. 15,000 staples sitting on my computer desk, getting in the way. I don’t even have a stapler. To my left old mail, behind me posters that have never found their place on the walls, in front of me a computer that doesn’t even work. Clutter. Mess. Unnecessary. Minimalism help me!

I began to throw away what I didn’t need, what I didn’t even want. I set aside a box of the redundant, the unimportant, the inessentials to give away. I’m sure someone wandering through V V Boutique would love an action figure of Sir John A. McDonald for a buck. One month ago I would have bought it. I’m certain my mother who works in an office where staplers are abundant could use these 15,000 staples way more than I could. Goodbye staples, goodbye Sir John.

The feeling is refreshing, rewarding, rejuvenating! The three ‘R’s of minimalism. My purpose is clear, my conscience is clean, life once again uncluttered by the mess of the past. A dear good friend of mine showed me the light, when she said, “It’s a feeling of being able to just leave and be free. To have nothing holding you back.” To be a minimalist is to be free.

I’ve only just begun.

Okay so I recently saw this movie called Young@Heart… and it’s my new favorite movie. You know like when you see a movie that you like and you come out of the theatre and are like, “Oh! That’s my new favorite movie!” Just because you liked it a lot, but it’s not really your new favorite movie. Well this is NOT the case this time. This movie is seriously one of my all time favorite movies. And I’ll tell you why…

First of all like most other ‘youngins’ I sometimes get a little annoyed with the elderly… I mean they don’t drive very good, that’s a given. They grab your arm really tight when they want to tell you a story. I mean I like the stories, but why do you gotta grab my arm so tight? Anyway I suppose I could be a little easier on them I mean they are a lot older than me… and that’s gotta stand for something. But after watching this movie, I have the utmost respect for anyone 40+ years older than me.

The film centers around a group of elderly folks that sing their own renditions of rock songs. As you watch the movie you really begin to become friends with these people, you share very personal moments with them, you start to feel for them. What’s so remarkable about this movie and what really makes my respect for people older than me go through the roof, is that when faced with death I was more affected than they were. I suppose when your that age, 80-100, and surrounded by people that age too, you are so familiar and used to death, that it doesn’t even seem that big of deal.

In this clip, and quite possibly one of the most moving scenes from any movie I’ve ever seen, the guy singing, I can’t remember his name, sings Fix You by Coldplay. His Oxygen tank can be heard over the microphone and almost acts like a music timer, bringing an even sadder tone to his rendition of Coldplay’s song. The backstory would give away something about the movie, but even in this clip that is out of context it is a beautiful moment.

So watch this clip and if it doesn’t even make your eyes water a little, then you probably don’t have a soul.

Billy gets what he deserves

I recently read how scientists are planning on destroying the world this August by turning on a doomsday device buried deep inside the Alps which in theory could create a black hole and destroy this planet as we know it… here’s the article.

“Critics of the LHC filed a lawsuit in a Hawaiian court in March seeking to block its startup, alleging that there was “a significant risk that … operation of the Collider may have unintended consequences which could ultimately result in the destruction of our planet.”

Scary stuff… kinda.

Apparently they’re searching for dark matter, or more dimensions or something. I guess three isn’t enough.. people are so greedy – especially those sciencey types!

Anyway if the world is going to end in August, then I have a month to do everything I’ve ever wanted to do before I die. Hence the list:

1) Write a novel

2) Climb a mountain

3) Go skydiving

4) Get shot

5) Get married and have a family (call me if your interested)

6) Write a Script

That’s all I can think of right now cause I’m distracted by Coldplay..

3) The lame right-wing callers that call into the Adler Show and just don’t get what I’m talking about

5) Dirty Dishes that pile up and start to smell, which makes me want to do them even less.
